HOLIDAY UPDATE
December 2022
It's that time of year again... how on earth is 2022 already over? The post-covid era has flown by and I can't keep up. I don't even know where to start!
TOM: He's finally 40! We celebrated BIGTIME and had an epic party in the backyard with some of our family and his closest friends. It was a night to remember (for those who can remember). He also had a special mountain biking trip in Whistler. Yes, his passion for mountain biking is still at 110% and he goes every chance he can get. He also makes time for snowboarding! It's now his 14th year at Hamamatsu and his company had a long-awaited team meeting/celebration in Hawaii this past November. The boys and I were fortunate to tag along and finally had the Hawaii vacation we've been dreaming about. So traveling is back for him and we are looking forward to more adventures when possible. His parents stayed with us the entire summer and now it's our turn to go to Poland. Hoping that happens in 2023!
THOMAS: We have a teenager in the house! He's 13 years old and in the 8the grade which means HIGH SCHOOL is next! I'm not ready... He's doing great in school and is looking forward to his East Coast trip with friends - they're going to DC >VA >NY for Spring Break. No parents, just teachers will be chaperoning. We're excited for this independent trip he'll be taking! He also enjoyed his first sleepaway camp this summer at YMCA Camp Surf and hopes to do that again. It's completely unplugged, too! He's still with the San Diego Hawks and will be starting at Seaside Volleyball next. He prefers the snow to the beach and will learn how to snowboard in 2023. After hitting the black diamonds on his skis, he can't wait to start shredding on a snowboard. We foresee more trips to Mammoth!
JENSEN: Now 11 years old and officially a 6th Grade Middle Schooler! It's so nice to have the boys at the same school this year. Jensen chose Art as his elective and LOVES it. I'm amazed at some of his work. He's also loving Minecraft and constantly building with his friends! He's still with his FCGS soccer team (as a goalie and forward) and is going to try volleyball as well. His baseball days have come to an end. He's currently reading "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy which he started after reading "The Hobbit." Jensen is opposite his brother and enjoys the beach more than snow (like his mama). His favorite memory of this past year is ziplining at the Kualoa Ranch in Oahu. He hopes we can go to Hawaii again soon!
JOLENE: As for me, my mind is still thinking about Hawaii as well! You would think after living in California for over 12 years we would have traveled to Hawaii a bunch of times already! Nope. It was our first time in November and I knew from the moment we got off that plane I would love it. I have a lot of traveling goals in 2023 - Mexico, Portugal, Hawaii again and hopefully Scotland! But first, I will continue to work with my amazing colleagues at Greenwald Realty Team & the Don Diego Scholarship Foundation, volunteer at the boys' school and be their personal chauffeur to their many activities, enjoy playing with Rocky & Willie and watch good K-dramas! LOL
We wish you all the very best in 2023 and hope to see you in person!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL!!!
December 2021
Has another year already flown by??? As I write this, I'm almost drawing a blank. 2021 is a BLUR! Who can forget 2020, but seriously, once post-pandemic life started again, it feels like time is flying faster than the speed of light. I know so much has happened, but where do I begin...
TOM: Tom has been enjoying his last year in his thirties... big birthday for him in 2022! It's about time... I've been itching to plan his 40th birthday for years! He's celebrating his 13th year with Hamamatsu as Sales Manager for the End User Group. Travel has been limited, but he has traveled for important meetings and conferences. His "office" is only a few feet from mine so we sometimes enjoy having lunch together but most of the time we are asking each other to "shh!" or are in each other's way in the kitchen. Thankfully, Rocky & Willie are our buffers when the kids are at school or practices. His passion for mountain biking is still strong and he's now in love with snowboarding, So you can catch him on the mountains all year long. He, of course, works so hard for our family and now that he's home more often, we just love it (especially when the mommy uber can't be cloned!). He is always out and about with his MTB/Dad's Club crew and looks forward to more adventures in 2022.
THOMAS: If you haven't seen Thomas in a while, you may not recognize him. He's 12yo and in the 7th grade. He's much taller than me, but still not at tall as Tom. He's proud to be a San Diego Hawks baseball player, skier, ultimate frisbee playing, Minecraft gamer who is obsessed with Anime! I don't know how he does it, but he also manages to get straight A's with his very busy schedule. We are incredibly proud of him, although he would probably disagree. We're raising a pre-teen, so some of you know what that's like! But we know he reads this so here it is in writing for the world to see - "Thomas, we love you and are soooo proud of the man you are becoming! Just trust & believe. And put down your phone after 9pm!"
JENSEN: aka Mr. Presidente. Now in the 5th grade and 10yo, Jensen is in his last year of elementary school. He is Student Council President, on Safety Patrol, the No Place for Hate Committee and a Striker on his FC Golden State soccer team. He is doing great at school and is still into art, plays the saxophone and just like his big bro, loves Anime! He's also a very avid reader and is into The Hunger Games at the moment. He's also my buddy when it comes to watching/listening to musicals. He had a great baseball season and is now totally into his soccer club. We love that both boys are back in school, in-person and could not be happier! Most likely, they are both on the NICE list and hope Santa is good to them this year.
JOLENE: As for me, I'm getting close to 50 now that Tom is almost 40! LOL It's been a very productive year for me. Getting my real estate license was a huge goal and task during the pandemic, but it finally happened! Still working at Greenwald & Gerke plus the DDSF so your working mama has been working full-time these days! Beachbody is still a huge part of my daily routine and I'm still not a big fan of cooking, but now that we did a bit of home remodeling, my goal is to be a better hostess to all the fam & friends we haven't seen since pre-covid days. Consider this an open invitation to our home!
So to sum up, 2021 has been a transitional time getting used to our new normal. Sadly, we attended one too many funerals, but life is still going on... rest in peace to all the souls we lost. Our memories of you are so cherished. We also have new babies in our families plus weddings and milestone birthdays in the new year so it's definitely time to BE WITH OUR LOVED ONES AGAIN. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas & hope to see you in 2022!
Love,
Jolene & the rest of the Z crew

December 2020
Dearest Family & Friends,
Oh my, what a year it has been. Don't even know where to start. Seems like the world just fell apart on Friday, March 13th and we're still picking up the pieces. I'm usually super excited to write our "Year in Review" every year, but wow... 2020 has been, well, so 2020! And I know this year has been tough for so many. Not just with covid-19, but losing loved ones for other reasons, feeling disconnected and divided amongst family/friends, growing apart, work struggles, anxiety etc. I'm a bit speechless, to be honest.
Yes, it's been hard.
Yes, we're all trying to survive a pandemic.
Yes, it hurts.
We're going through it, too.
BUT, our family hopes there has been more joy than pain, more good times than bad and that despite these #unprecedentedtimes, you grew closer with those you quarantined with, discovered more ways to make your house your "home," got a furry friend, or just found a little bit of happy. That is our Christmas wish for you!
Keep reading for some personal updates from our family
Tom has been enjoying his role as a Sales Manager for Hamamatsu for the past two years. His busy travel schedule came to a halt once covid hit, but fortunately, he did go to Poland in January to visit his family. We're so thankful he made that trip as it had been too long since he last saw them. Our plan was to spend 3 weeks in Poland this summer. Sadly, that never happened. Tom's been working from home (ALL OVER THE HOUSE) and is busier than ever! He did pick up an old hobby that has become his passion during quarantine - mountain biking! At one point there were maybe 8 bikes in our garage, but he finally found the perfect fit. I'm pretty sure there will be a new bike in 2021 as everyone in his crew is getting e-bikes. Tom might be next!
2020 started out ah-mazing! My NJ Sister and her family spent the holidays with us so we took advantage of free babysitters and partied on NYE with friends at the Lafayette Hotel - it was epic + a roaring 20s theme. January was a busy month with Tom traveling, me working, kids in school and I turned 43! The year started off great.
February was kind of crazy - Thomas had oral surgery for a very stubborn tooth that needs to relocate before his phase 2 braces and Jensen had an adenoidectomy. Jensen and I also made a last minute trip to the east coast as my dearest Tito Eddie passed away. As sad as it was, it did give Jensen and I the opportunity to see my side of the family before the pandemic. I am so grateful for that.
Then March... Thomas, fortunately, went on his most anticipated 5th grade trip to the Star of India! Some of his friends didn't get to go, but we feel lucky that he went and Tom got to go with him. (Thomas did throw up on the boat and he's proud of it LOL). Our pre-pandemic life was pretty normal and exciting till that dreaded Friday, the 13th.
I'm still working, mostly from home, and I'm SO CLOSE to getting my real estate license. Covid thwarted my plans, but I was able to complete my pre-requisites via zoom, and now I'm just waiting for the CA DRE to approve my application and take the licensing exam. Crossing fingers it happens soon! Beachbody is still my go-to release and I started to run - yes, me. Running. I'm shocked, too. Honorable mention highlight of my year - I finally got LASIK!
Pandemic life has not been that bad - plenty of baking, puzzles, Netflix, Disney+, hiking, biking and time to work on endless projects at the house! The kids did not love distance learning, but they excelled and still are. Thomas is still in virtual school but hopes he can go back twice a week in January. Jensen goes to school in-person every day and attends after care. They both see friends (masks on!) which has definitely helped their socio-emotional well-being. It hasn't been easy on them, but overall, they are resilient and we are very proud of them.
BUT, one of the best moments has been when we adopted our new furry member of the family - Willie! He is the best little mutt and makes us so happy. Rocky won't admit it, but he loves his new brother (most of the time). We did a DNA test on him and he's not a schnoodle, but he's even better: Australian Cattle Dog, Poodle, Chihuahua & Siberian Husky. He's pretty cool :)
I could go on and on but we are doing good and pray that 2021 brings more memories to be grateful for. We wish you all a Merry Everything and send you virtual hugs until we can give you a real one again - hopefully in the new year!
July 2020
So if you're wondering if we're still in quarantine and if the pandemic still exists... the answer is yes! The past 4 months have been intense and the future is still unknown, but overall we are in good health. A bit moody, but things could be worse. The world has changed. So many questions about society in general. My hope is that the new normal will be better and the my children will be part of the revolution! #wearamask #vote #blacklivesmatter #hamilfilm #bananabread #netflixandchill #tigerking #mountainbiking #backyardbbqs #zoom #wfh #distancelearning #dungeonsanddragons #minimalists #diyprojects #adoptadog #socialdistance #quaranteam

Who knows what this time will be called in the future, but we are currently in the times of a global pandemic. #Coronavirus #COVID19 has closed off our borders, our city and our community. We are working from home and the kids are learning from home. We miss our loved ones so much and hope this time will soon pass...

We love our home base of San Diego, CA. Jolene is originally from NY and Tom is from Poland, but our dream has always been to live by the ocean. We love that we're raising our family here on the West Coast and hope that more of our family and friends visit us so we can share our adventures with you.
2019 Year in Review
HOME
We can officially call San Diego our home for 10 years! This January will be our 10th year since we moved to San Diego. Honestly, it's hard to believe. It feels like only yesterday when it was a cold day in January when we were bawling our eyes out at Newark Airport and said goodbye to our family and friends on the East Coast. Thomas was only 5 months old! As a native New Yorker, and BU alum, I always thought my life would be permanently stationed on the East Coast. Moving to Cali was a far-fetched dream. For Tom, he moved all the way from Poland to New York so we could start our lives together. He also was California Dreamin'. We are so blessed that we had the opportunity to move to San Diego and now call it our forever home. Speaking of home, our little house had a few makeovers this past year. We removed a very ugly structure from the backyard and finally renovated 2 bathrooms.
Please come and visit us so you can see for yourself!
HEALTH
This year, each of us had our share of doctor, eye and dental visits. We also each had our share and scare of things that have really put our lives into perspective. No need to get into detail, but we just want everyone to know that being healthy and staying healthy is a huge priority in our lives. Tom and I are continuing our Beachbody journey and our kids are doing their best to be active and eating healthy as well - it's not easy, but we are definitely trying! Our wish is that all our family and friends have a very healthy year... and decade!
HAPPINESS
We each have happiness goals for 2020. The goals we share are to have a happy and healthy home and most importantly, to focus on #growthmindset for all our goals. Wishing the same for all of you...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Love,
Jolene, Tom, Thomas, Jensen & Rocky
P.S. We had SO many adventures this year - Mammoth for skiing, London, Palm Desert, Boston, Maryland, DC, San Jose and San Francisco. Tom had over 70+ flights this year alone! We, fortunately, can take advantage of his frequent flyer miles and hotel points so we can tag along when we can. We hope to add more miles in 2020!

2018 Year in Review
School's Out! Boys are enjoying Camp at their school while Tom and I are still hustlin' at work. No big plans for summer as we used a lot of vacation time and energy in London for Spring Break. What an amazing vacation... would love to go back and venture to more places in the UK. Tom's travels have decreased just a bit while I found myself loving a new gig as part of the Don Diego Scholarship Foundation. Yes, double work but double the FUN doing what I LOVE - event planning! And I get to work at the SD Fair! We have a few side trips planned, but to be honest, our summers are so short. But we will pack in as many adventures as we can. Hugs to all!
2018 HOLIDAY UPDATE BELOW
@tom.zarzycki
It's been an incredible year for Tom. Not only did he celebrate his 10th work anniversary at Hamamatsu, he was also promoted as a Sales Manager! He's been über busy with work projects and travelling all over the country as well as Japan. He's still keeping busy outside of work with soccer, Beachbody workouts and his new found love of sewing... Yes, I said sewing. Stay tuned for what designs he has up his sleeve... be sure to follow him on Instagram and watch his many IG stories. His IG stories are the best way we can keep track of his travels! BUT, the most exciting adventure Tom had in 2018 was becoming a US Citizen! We celebrated "TO'Merica" with our closest family and friends and Tom also voted for the first time in November. We are so proud of him! #residentoftheworld
@jolenemariez
It's been a memorable year for Jolene as well. She just celebrated her 1 year work anniversary at Greenwald & Gerke and has become a Certified Transaction Coordinator. In between working part-time, chauffeuring the kids full-time to all their activities plus Rocky's activities, she's still loving her favorite volunteer job at the kids' school #CVESRocks. Each morning she gets up at 5am and dedicates an hour to her Beachbody workouts and protein shakes. Although she's spending less time in the kitchen these days, she still enjoys making meals at home, especially with her Instant Pot. She's looking forward to more travels in 2019 and hopes it involves trips outside the US. #liveyourbestlife #progressnotperfection
We are so ready for 2019!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL OF YOU!!!

@tom.zarzycki
